Ramiz Raja criticizes Pakistan captain Babar Azam, saying, “If you want to find fault, it’s His Batting Against Spin”

Ramiz Raja, a former cricketer for Pakistan who is now a broadcaster, addressed Babar Azam’s apparent incapacity to handle spinners early in his innings and encouraged him to rally for a “hundred.”

Babar has amassed an abject 216 runs at an average of 30.85 in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, with three half-centuries to his credit. It has been nothing short of a dismal performance for the Pakistan captain.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-262082″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-bengaluru-man-is-worried-that-his-parents-make-more-moneya-bizarre-issue-that-nobo.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com bengaluru man is worried that his parents make more moneya bizarre issue that nobo” width=”1412″ height=”791″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-bengaluru-man-is-worried-that-his-parents-make-more-moneya-bizarre-issue-that-nobo.jpg 300w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-bengaluru-man-is-worried-that-his-parents-make-more-moneya-bizarre-issue-that-nobo-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1412px) 100vw, 1412px” title=”Ramiz Raja criticizes Pakistan captain Babar Azam, saying, "If you want to find fault, it's His Batting Against Spin" 6″>

Spin bowling seems to have been Babar’s downfall in this World Cup campaign. Upon closer examination, the statistics speak for themselves: Babar has been removed from the game five times out of seven occasions this tournament, against spinners like Colin Ackermann, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Noor Ahmad, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Adam Zampa.

In order to counter spinners on the turning wicket, Ramiz advised Babar to play sweep shots in an interview with Star Sports. He said, “If you want to find fault in his batting, it’s his batting against spin upfront when he starts the innings.” According to Ramiz, he is not as fluid as he is when he is facing pace.

I’m not sure whether it’s due of his footwork or if he doesn’t have many alternatives since he doesn’t play the sweep shot. You have to play the sweep stroke on slow pitches,” he said.

The Pakistani side is currently struggling in the World Cup due to a lack of reliable top-order batting performances. Babar’s struggles against spinners are a significant blow to the team. According to Ramiz, being out in this way makes a batter feel more confident.

“He has always left as well, even when he acted aggressively. He smashed a huge six against Afghanistan, but he was out at the worst moment. Thus, the trust grows before collapsing,” he said.

To feel at ease in his job, he only has to get to a point where he can handle speed and spin. He is still middling the ball and is not completely out of control, but Ramiz noted that he seems a little uneasy when he starts an innings against spin.

With their third tournament victory, a seven-wicket victory against Bangladesh on Tuesday, Pakistan moved up to fifth place in the standings and maintained their hopes of qualifying for the semifinals.

At Bangalore’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, Pakistan will next play New Zealand.
