<p>The captain took a daring decision to give left-arm spinner Axar Patel the last over, and India had to defend 43 runs in the final two overs. Patel was India’s best bowler of the day, conceding only 19 runs and collecting one wicket.</p>
<p>However, India’s approach proved ineffective as Patel gave up 23 runs in the 19th over.</p>
<p>“I gave Axar the 19th over because he has bowled the 19th and 20th overs before,” had clarified Surya. He thus has experience as well, and I have always believed that an experienced bowler has an advantage over a spinner when there is a lot of dew.</p>
<p>Ruturaj Gaikwad, who opened the innings for India, batted superbly, leading the way with 123 not out from 57 balls, his first century in an international match.</p>
<p>“Amazing hit from Gaikwad; once I was out, he took the innings deep.” He’s a terrific player, and he demonstrated it with the manner he batted, as I’ve always maintained in franchise cricket as well. “I’m really happy for my boys,” he said.</p>
