‘Bahubali’ ex-MP Anand Mohan Singh to walk out of jail as Bihar govt tweaks rule | Patna News – Times of India

PATNA: One of Bihar’s “bahubali” (strongman) politicians, Anand Mohan Singh, serving life sentence for the 1994 murder of an IAS officer, will soon walk out of jail, with the state government on Monday issuing a notification ordering the release of the former MP and 26 others, as they have completed 14-year prison term.At a meeting held on April 20, the Rajya Dandadesh Parihar Parishad (state sentence remission council) had recommended the release of prisoners who had served actual sentence of 14 years or sentence of 20 years with remission, following a recent amendment in the jail manual.Apart from Anand Mohan, Awadhesh Mandal (42), husband of former minister in the Nitish Kumar government Bima Bharti, will also be released along with the other prisoners. The notification asked the jail superintendents concerned to have a re-look at their papers to see they fulfilled all the conditions warranting their release.Anand Mohan, 75, who was convicted for the murder of then Gopalganj DM G Krishnaiah on December 5, 1994, is lodged in Saharsa jail. He was found guilty of inciting a mob – protesting the killing of a leader of Anand’s party – to lynch the IAS officer.
